Dear Hill-Roberts Families,
This has been a busy run up to April break!
First, MCAS ELA testing is nearly complete, with make-up tests scheduled for next week. Kudos to our third and fourth graders who truly put forth their best effort! In addition, our second graders finished their 6-weeks of swim at the YMCAS this Friday. By all accounts our second grade students loved the experience and truly grew in their swimming skills and confidence :). On top of all of this, all of our students successfully completed March Mathness, which culminated with class certificates and a visit form STMath's mascot, JiJi! A special thank you to Mrs. Cameron (our Instructional Coach) for coordinating the friendly competition and a special shout out to Mr. O'Connors class, our champions (see picture above)!!!
Next week, we will start with an Eclipse on Monday afternoon! Glasses will be distributed in the morning to all students/ staff - see the message below for more details. More importantly though, next week, our librarian Mrs. Cotsalas has set up quite the lineup for Read Across Hill-Roberts with guests including former teachers, former principals, state senators, and superintendents! As always, this should be exciting! In addition, we have our first Community Potluck (RSVP only) on Thursday evening from 6:00-7:30, which in addition to some great food will have some great singing from some of Mrs. Torres students!
Finally, as a reminder, Monday is a FULL day of school, but Friday is a half-day of school (12:25 dismissal for Friday only)
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Madden, Principal
Mrs. Nora Hassan, Assistant Principal

Reminder - Updated Guidance on Respiratory Viral Illnesses
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) has updated recommendations for schools and the general public to prevent the spread of any respiratory viruses. There are no longer any statewide isolation or quarantine requirements for those who test positive for COVID-19. This aligns with the March 1, 2024, updated guidelines released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The new guidance applies to any respiratory viral illness such as Covid, Flu or RSV. Symptoms of a viral illness include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache.
The new guidance states that even with a positive Covid test, individuals may return to school/work and resume normal activities when:
● they have not had a fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications like acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) AND
● symptoms are improving.
For additional information – please refer to the student handbook under “School and Illness: When your Child Should Stay Home.”
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school nurse.
Reminder- Optional - HRES Class Placement Family Information (letter) and Form
Please use this Form if you have specific insights about your child that you wish to share for our placement process. As noted in this letter, completing this form is OPTIONAL. Forms will be reviewed by staff, so any confidential information should be shared directly with an administrator. Forms must be submitted by Friday, April 26, 2024. Forms received after this deadline may not be able to be taken into consideration as the process will have begun. Please remember that requests for specific teachers will not be considered, and requests that specific students be placed together or separated may not be able to be accommodated. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
